Skeletal remains found in the western Maine woods led to a police investigation. The discovery in Jay came after a tip sent by the family of a woman who’s been missing for nearly 40 years.
While they say the remains ended up not being Kimberly Moreau’s, her father, Richard Moreau, isn’t giving up hope.
“Very emotional day. Long day, long day,” Moreau said.
Kimberly Moreau, 17, was last seen in 1986 when a friend allegedly dropped her off on Jewell Street in Jay.
Now more than three decades later, her father continues to search for his missing daughter.
“We don’t care how it’s done. All I want to do is find my daughter,” Moreau said.
Moreau said he recently received a tip that he believed could lead him to Kimberly.
“You have all these thoughts running through your head, ‘What am I going to do if this is finally over,’” Moreau said.
The tip, from a psychic Moreau said he has worked with for over five years, led him and his family to find skeletal remains in the woods off Elm Street in Jay, only two streets over from his home.
“There is this woman who has psychic abilities. She was out with us, and she felt very strong about this one spot not far from my home. We went there yesterday, and we discovered a body,” Moreau said.
Moreau said he called the police and that state investigators eventually told him the remains they found were not Kimberly’s.
“It wasn’t my daughter, but it was somebody else’s loved one, which means that family will have closure,” Moreau said.
Moreau said he has mixed emotions after the discovery, but isn’t giving up hope.
“Unfortunately to this point, it’s been 38 years, and we haven’t found her yet, but we will, we will never quit,” Moreau said.
Maine State Police are assisting in the investigation of what they call “possible” human remains.
They’ve since gone to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to be identified.
Moreau just wants closure for him, Kimberly’s two sisters and everyone else who has supported them through the years.
“We know that somebody has the answer to what we need. Please get in contact with us, please tell us where the body is. After that, I walk away. Like I said, I’ll get a few years of peace and quiet. Give me my daughter and let me have my daughter home,” Moreau said.
