The lakeside town of Harrison bills itself as the “Friendly Village.” But politics there have been anything but friendly, with parking lot confrontations, social media mudslinging and budget fights.

The mother of a man abused at a Hampden care facility said the punishment was too light for the one worker who has pleaded guilty so far. “I wouldn’t have agreed with the plea bargain if I knew what I know now,” she said.

Maine’s surviving cranberry farmers are finally expecting a bumper season. There are only 15 cranberry farms left in the state, down from 40 in 2003.

These are the takeaways from Maine’s watchdog agency investigations into four child deaths. The reports examined the deaths of Hailey Goding, Maddox Williams, Jaden Harding and Sylus Melvin.

Maine’s 66 lighthouses were added to a list of the most endangered historic places. Some of the state’s coastal beacons sustained significant damage during January’s devastating twin storms.
