Hackers infiltrated Millinocket Regional Hospital’s system over the summer, potentially accessing patient files.
The hospital said in a Monday notice that around July 21 it discovered an “unauthorized party” had gained access to its system.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the hackers potentially accessed patient information, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, health insurance and treatment information, according to Millinocket Regional Hospital.
What information that may have been exposed varied from patient to patient.
There haven’t been any confirmed cases of fraud or identity theft yet, the hospital said.

But “out of an abundance of caution” Millinocket Regional Hospital is offering free credit monitoring and identity theft protection for affected patients.
Anyone with questions can call 1-833-451-0503 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“MRH takes its responsibility to safeguard personal information seriously and regrets any concern this incident may have caused. As part of MRH’s ongoing commitment to the security of information, the organization has reviewed and enhanced its data security policies and procedures in order to help reduce the likelihood of a similar event in the future,” the hospital said in a statement.
