Five candidates turned in papers by Friday’s deadline to get their names on the ballot in this year’s Ellsworth City Council race.
Two of the seven seats on the council will be up for election in November.
Steve O’Halloran, an incumbent first elected in 2021, is running for re-election, but another councilor first elected that same year, Casey Hanson, has decided not to run again.
Perennial candidate John Linnehan is one of four other people whose names will be on the ballot, each looking to win election for the first time. The others are Robert Mckenney, Cale Roberts, and Tabatha White.
Linnehan, 76, is a conservative businessman who has consistently urged city officials to reduce property taxes and who, from 2022 through 2023, operated Constitution Hall at Maine Coast Mall as a place where like-minded conservatives could gather to hear guest speakers.
Information about the other candidates was not immediately available Monday.
