HERMON, BANGOR — Mia passed away in her daddy’s arms on the morning of August 3, 2024. She took a final sunny walk in her countryside happy place, with her dad carrying her on the way back, inside to her bed, where she was comforted and cuddled by him and his daughters until her epic 17 years in this life were over.

As a puppy, Mia was purchased and rescued from a neglectful situation in Florida and moved to Maine by her loving mother, Jess, who brought much joy into the lives of those she shared Mia with; one of the first being her mother, Cathy, who has always helped take care of her beloved “granddog.”

Early on, it wasn’t unusual for MIA to be Missing In Action, but she was gracious enough to let her father, Nate, tame her. Instead of running away, she began to stay close without a leash and return when called. Mia loved playing intense games of hide and seek and tag, taking strolls around her areas of town, going hiking, and being with the ones she loved.

Mia experienced many adventures with her family and enjoyed staying busy dividing her time between different homes, especially Nate’s parents’ house in the country, where she could run free and be spoiled with healthy homemade dog food by her “Gram.” Over the years, this land became the oldest home Mia knew, and eventually her final resting place.

Mia had many siblings and was great with kids, especially her first baby brother, Simon (Jessica’s firstborn son). Mia spent entire days at Simon’s side, “guarding” him from visitors. Simon grew up adoring Mia, as did Nate’s daughter, Aliyah, who went on countless long “nature walks” with Mia. Joining them, was her uncle, Isaac – one of Mia’s very best and faithful friends.

Mia is survived by her loving mother, Jessica Davies, her husband, Steven, and children, Connor, Carson, Simon, and Jonah; her father, Nathaniel Dorman, his wife, Breanna, and children, Izzy, Aliyah, Zoe, and Amia; many uncles and aunts, including Isaac, Leah, and Lydia; and grandparents, Charlie and Cathy Bryant “Opa and Oma”, and Leonard and Priscilla Dorman “Opa and Gram”; great-grandparents, Helen Caldwell and Stephen Harvey; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Mia had a youthful spirit and was very healthy and active until the end. She shared an indescribable love with her family, that deepened even more in later years. Mia was an extra special blessing from God.

Her aunt Lydia, drawing on childhood memories, wrote this perfect summary about Mia:

“For Mia: Mia has always reminded me of a wolf: wild and free. She is the fastest dog I have ever seen and I will always remember looking at her paw prints in the snow, astonished at how far apart they were, how far she could jump. Mia was such an intelligent dog, often seeming almost like a peer as well as a pet. Mia was a gentle, content, peaceful dog. Mia was also fiercely loyal and very faithful to the people she loved. Some day she’ll be restored with the rest of the New Creation.”

A memorial service for Mia will be held at 636 Pine Tree Road, Hermon, ME, on Saturday, August 31, at 12 p.m. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, because Mia loved babies, donations may be made to the Shepherd’s Godparent Home, 759 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401.
