The Maine Warden Service on Friday rescued a 71-year-old Fort Kent man who had gone fishing and never came back.
McClaren “Mickey” McBreairty told his wife on Thursday afternoon that he was going fishing in the North Maine Woods, the warden service said in a news release. When he didn’t return by 10:30 p.m., McBreairty’s wife reported him missing.
Game wardens confirmed that McBreairty had passed through a gate to the North Maine Woods at about noon Thursday and knew one of his favorite fishing areas , but were unable to find him. They continued searching until about 3 a.m., resuming again at 6 a.m. Friday with more wardens, a ranger and an aircraft.
At 10:15 a.m., a pilot from the warden service spotted McBreairty’s truck stuck on a washed out road alongside a beaver flowage off the Michaud Farm Road in Allagash.
A game warden on the ground was able to drive to the location where he found McBreairty in the truck, “a little tired but in good spirits,” according to the warden service.
The warden was able to get him out of the woods, and reunite him with his family.
