There is a new book out on the Lewiston mass shooting, taking a deep dive into how it happened and how it’s affecting Maine communities.
Wiscasset-based author Robert Conlin’s book is called “The Lewiston Shootings: An All-American Tragedy.”
Conlin said a publisher reached out to him to cover the tragedy, and he agreed.
Conlin wanted to tell the story not in a “true crime” style, but in a holistic way, sharing stories from those directly affected by the tragedy and how Maine is healing.
“We have a viewpoint that Maine is a unique and wonderful place, and it is, and it still is. And the people of Maine are unique and wonderful people. And the people of Lewiston are strong and resilient and, you know, the community came together in a big way, and I just hope that people remember that,” Conlin said.
Conlin also spoke with Robert Card II’s family, as a way of understanding what brought him to carry out the shooting, with the hopes of averting similar tragedies in the future.
Conlin’s book was released on July 30.
