A man remains hospitalized more than a week after a deadly shooting in Portland.

The shooting happened about 8:45 p.m. on July 30 on Forest Avenue, near Morrill’s Corner, according to Brad Nadeau, a spokesperson for the Portland Police Department.

Witnesses reported hearing as many as seven gunshots. Customers and staff at nearby Brass Rail Bar and Samuel’s Bar and Grill were unharmed, CBS affiliate WGME reported at the time.

The shooting left four people wounded, one of whom — 54-year-old Susan McHugh of Gray — succumbed to her injuries the next day. Her death has been ruled a homicide.

A 45-year-old man from New Hampshire was treated and released the night of the shooting, while a 48-year-old man from Yarmouth was hospitalized and recently released, Nadeau said Tuesday.

One man — a 51-year-old from Gray — remains hospitalized, according to Nadeau.

The identities of the three men injured in the shooting haven’t been made public.

Nadeau said that no arrests have been made, but the investigation into the shooting remains “very active,” with officers executing multiple search warrants. Police Chief Mark Dubois said more than a dozen investigators are working “exclusively” on the case.

To date, few details have been released about the shooting, which Dubois acknowledged Tuesday has caused some “anxiety” for the public. But he said that the decision to keep more details from the public isn’t “taken lightly.”

“We are working with local, State and Federal agencies to identify and build solid evidence to support both an arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder of Susan McHugh,” Dubois said.
