It seems that the U.S.-Russian prisoner swap became less important than an Ecuadorian eatery opening in Veazie. Or did the BDN simply make the news “fit to print” the available space?
This swap was a great piece of diplomacy with multiple countries making the swap possible. Germany expected no favors in return from President Joe Biden.
The BDN has been accused of being anti-Trump, right-leaning, etc, yet the paper also publishes weekly pieces by Michael Cianchette, so the accusations in that respect appear to be false.
I think Michael Cianchette’s latest piece, while admitting that J.D. Vance’s allegations regarding childless politicians are poorly made, is insulting to women who do not wish to bear children and people who want one child, by suggesting that women should give birth to 2.1 children in order to keep population levels stable.
I have observed numerous families while at work, out shopping or simply sitting on my deck, that have multiple children (usually two to four). Then there are people who choose to remain childless. And what’s wrong with that? That doesn’t make them any less American by not having “a direct stake” in our country, as Vance claimed.
I seriously doubt that “shrinking as a nation” is going to lead to the ultimate collapse of Social Security. And why are we “ignoring immigration”? What’s the implication or intent of that phrase?
Instead of focusing on maintaining the population status quo, perhaps Mr. Cianchette should turn his focus toward helping to make the U.S. a more affordable nation to live and work in so the average taxpayer can save more money for their retirement and not have to rely upon Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Now there’s an idea I can get behind!
