One of two teens who escaped from a South Portland prison has been arrested in Massachusetts.
The youth, whose identity hasn’t been released, was caught without incident about 5:14 a.m. Tuesday in Georgetown, Massachusetts, according to the Maine Department of Corrections.
South Portland police said that the 16-year-old was arrested after crashing a Porsche he allegedly stole in Hampton, New Hampshire, earlier this morning.
That comes after the Friday night escape from Long Creek Youth Development Center, the state’s only youth prison. Two teens are believed to have escaped.
Not long after the escape, the 16-year-old and the second suspect, 18-year-old Davyn Flynn of Portland, forcibly removed a woman from her vehicle on Liberty Lane, not far from Long Creek, according to the South Portland Police Department. They allegedly claimed to have a weapon, which wasn’t displayed during the robbery.
Both teens are wanted in South Portland on charges of robbery, criminal threatening, assault and terrorizing.
South Portland police said Tuesday that the department is working with authorities in New Hampshire and Massachusetts to apprehend Flynn.
“The Maine Department of Corrections continues to advise anyone who believes they have seen the individual to report the sighting immediately by calling 911 and not to approach or engage him,” the department said Tuesday.
