After announcing on Sunday that he would no longer be seeking a second term as president, Joe Biden will address the nation from the Oval Office of the White House on Wednesday night.
The president, who is currently 81 years old, would have been the oldest presidential nominee in U.S. history. Aside from President Lyndon Johnson, who halted his second bid for the White House after just one primary, Biden is the only presumptive nominee to drop out of the race so close to the November election.
After announcing his exit, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the potential Democratic presidential nominee. Harris has secured a number of key endorsements from Democratic powerhouse figures, boosting her potential to be named as the official nominee at the DNC convention in August.
Wednesday night’s address will be the president’s first public address since his decision to drop out of the race on Sunday.
