More details have emerged in the death of a 1-year-old boy on Vinalhaven this week, but how it happened still hasn’t been determined.
At about 10:51 a.m. Wednesday, the parents of the boy called 911 to report that he was unresponsive, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety. First responders then arrived at the family’s home and began lifesaving efforts.
The boy was then taken to a clinic on the island, and shortly thereafter, the Maine State Police were notified that the child had died, according to Moss.
The boy’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy was performed on Thursday, but officials need to do more testing before determining the cause and manner of his death, Moss said. The parents of the child are cooperating with the investigation.
