MOUNT DESERT ISLAND — Multiple power outages throughout Hancock County led to some powerless buildings on Monday evening.
“At 7:15 p.m. crews responded to an outage in Northeast Harbor caused by a tree on the line,” which impacted 700 customers, said Versant Communications Specialist Tina Morrill. “Shortly after, crews responded to a disruption at the Ellsworth Falls substation.”
The tree that fell was on Harborside Drive in Northeast Harbor. Because of the Ellsworth disruption, approximately 33,000 customers were affected in Hancock County.
About “23,500 customers were restored within 20 minutes,” Morrill said. “The remaining 9,500 customers in Surry, Blue Hill, and Brooksville were restored by 9 p.m.”
The disruption at the substation is due to work by Versant.
“Currently, our system is in an alternate configuration as construction work is being done in Ellsworth that will improve long-term reliability. Engineers continue to analyze the system to minimize future outages,” Morrill said.
