Sir Andy Murray will play mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu at Wimbledon, his team has announced.

Sir Andy said on Tuesday he would not be competing in the men’s singles at the tournament – in what is his final appearance at the All England Club.

But he said he would take part in the men’s doubles with his brother Jamie for the first time.

The 37-year-old will now also team up with Raducanu, a former US Open champion, after the pair were granted a wild card entry.

The opening round of the mixed event is scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday.

Sir Andy previously announced he was planning to retire from tennis after the Olympics in Paris this summer.

The former world number one had been in a race against time to compete at Wimbledon after pulling out of the Queen’s Club tournament last month due to an injury.

The two-time Wimbledon champion had back surgery days later but had still been hoping to play against Czech Tomas Machac – until he pulled out at the last minute.

Raducanu won her opening singles match at the tournament on Monday, saying she took inspiration from England’s victory over Slovakia at the Euros by “winning ugly”.

Her partnership with Sir Andy will be her grand slam doubles debut.

When asked about Sir Andy following her win on Monday, the 21-year-old admitted she had not “spoken to him so much” but said he had still been an inspiration.

She added: “I think for me it’s just watching him operate day-to-day, watching him be absolutely on it with everything. Even in practice now, he’s so on it to the minute.

“I think me, when I was a bit younger maybe, showing up 15 minutes before practice to do a few arm curls, swing my hand around and warm up. He’s there for an hour and a half doing treatment. He just sets really good examples.”

Raducanu previously floated the idea of teaming up with the Scot when she told BBC Breakfast two years ago: “We haven’t actually spoken about it but it’s something we feel we both want to do.”

Sir Andy famously played mixed doubles with Serena Williams at Wimbledon in 2019, with the duo making it to the third round.

He is due to play his first doubles game alongside his brother on Thursday.
