AUGUSTA — The Maine Murder Victims’ Memorial Monument will be rededicated at the annual ceremony which will be held Sunday, June 30 at 1 p.m. at the site located on property of the Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Road in Augusta. This year there are 44 Maine murder victims, whose names are being lovingly added to the memorial list of hundreds already inscribed on the granite monument.

The  Maine Murder Victims’ Memorial Monument  respectfully honors the memories of those who have died at the hands of another, and was designed by Bruce Collette as an instrument of awareness to the realities of violence in our own society. Incorporating educational and inspirational elements, it is a place where anyone can contemplate their own personal role in seeking to end the senseless murders of our sons, daughters, relatives, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, while remembering those whose lives were taken.

“This memorial monument was created through the gifts from families affected by the murders of their loved ones, and the generosity of compassionate friends of the Maine Chapter, Parents Of Murdered Children. It was first dedicated in 2013,”  according to Parents Of Murdered Children, Maine Chapter Leader Arthur Jette of Cambridge.

This year we will be able to provide ASL interpretation for the rededication ceremonies, thanks to the generosity of the Maine Resiliency Center in Lewiston and the efforts of Maine POMC Co-Leader Joanna Stokinger. We will also have a 20- by 40-foot canopy tent, donated by Markham Tent Rentals of West Gardiner, through the efforts of Maine POMC Board Member Vicki Dill.

The event is open to the public and a free reception will be held at the Club Calumet, 334 River Road in Augusta, following the conclusion of the unveiling and recognition ceremonies.

For more information, or directions, please call or text Jette at 207-270-2999, Joanna Stokinger at 207-616-1308, or Diane Gagnon at 207-248-9465 or [email protected].
