Donald Trump was recently convicted of falsifying business records in order to conceal damaging information and unlawful activity from American voters before and after the 2016 election.
Trump received due process during his trial, and was duly convicted by a jury of his peers. Despite howls from Republicans who hope to benefit by association with the former president, no one has provided any evidence that: 1) Trump’s indictment by an independent grand jury was inappropriate; 2) the trial jury (which was selected jointly by Trump’s lawyers and the prosecution) was biased against Trump; 3) the presiding judge did or said anything that might bias the jury’s verdict; 4) Joe Biden or any other Democrat had anything to do with Trump’s indictment or conviction; or 5) the jury reached the wrong unanimous decision based on the testimony at the trial.
Nevertheless, Republicans, including Maine politicians and candidates, are spreading false information or partial truths about the trial, trying to sow doubt in the minds of Maine voters. But, I want facts, not lies or partial or mistruths.
I ask them “Why do you believe that?” “On what facts do you base your assertions”? “Give me something solid that we can discuss as friends and neighbors.”
I am ready and willing to consider any fact-based arguments that prove that Trump should not have been indicted or convicted.
Let’s have a meaningful discussion about this case, not one based on false information or innuendo.
