Police arrested a Unity man on Monday after an incident that drew a large police presence from multiple agencies to a stretch of Route 139 in Unity.
Shortly after 1 p.m. the Waldo County Regional Communications Center was notified that a Maine Forest Service ranger was requesting assistance at 118 Jacy Place in Unity, the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Jacy Place is a dead-end road two miles west of the town center.
The ranger had gone to the location to investigate illegally cut trees but had been met with two gunshots, one of which was fired in his direction, according to the sheriff’s office. The ranger was not hit by either shot.
Members of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service and Maine Forest Service responded. Additionally, specialty units including the state police tactical team and Forest Service helicopters responded.
Police arrested Sharod D. Parker, 38, and charged him with reckless conduct
with a dangerous weapon. He was brought to Waldo County Jail.
The sheriff’s office and forest service obtained and executed a search warrant at Parker’s home and seized additional evidence, according to the statement.
