A driver and passenger were seriously injured Wednesday afternoon along Route 3 in Liberty when their sedan crashed into two larger vehicles: a full-size pickup and a dump truck.
The driver of the 2002 Toyota Camry, 18-year-old Blair Fuller-Barnard of Montville, is in critical condition after she had to be taken to the hospital in a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Her passenger, 19-year-old Donovan Aldus of Montville, also had serious injuries and was initially taken to Belfast by ambulance, before LifeFlight also flew him away for more advanced care.
According to an initial investigation, the crash occurred when Fuller-Barnard tried to turn from West Main Street onto Route 3 — also known as Belfast Augusta Road — and failed to yield the right of way to the two other vehicles on Route 3, according to the sheriff’s office.
Traffic was detoured off the busy road for about two hours while the crash was investigated.
The two other vehicles in the crash were a westbound 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Todd Farrington, 58, of Freeport, and an eastbound 2020 Western Star dump truck driven by Alfred Lancaster, 62, of Belgrade, according to the sheriff’s office. Neither of those drivers needed to be transported for medical care.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash, but say alcohol and speed are not believed to have been factors.
