The University of Maine football team has lost one of its best offensive lineman to the NCAA Division I transfer portal.
Just two days after playing in Saturday’s 18th annual Jeff Cole Memorial Spring Game which pits UMaine’s offense against its defense, tackle Xavier Lozowicki entered the transfer portal and he has received a host of offers from Football Bowl Subdivision teams.
His name has already been removed from the UMaine roster.
The Ridley Park, PA native and product of the prestigious IMG Academy in Bradenton, FLA, was a true freshman this past season.
UMaine is a Football Championship Subdivision school. FCS schools have 22 fewer scholarships and fewer resources than FBS institutions.
There are 122 FCS schools and 130 FBS programs.
The spring transfer portal for undergrads opens on April 16 and closes on April 30. Grad transfers have an extra day (May 1).
On his X account (formerly twitter), the 6-foot-4, 300-pound Lozowicki acknowledged receiving scholarship offers from Brigham Young University and the University of West Virginia.
He has also received offers from Cincinnati, UMass and Austin Peay, according to Sports Illustrated, and WV (West Virginia) SportsNow reported that he had been contacted by Marshall University, the University of South Florida and Vanderbilt.
The Sports Illustrated story said that according to Pro Football Focus, which is a sports analytics company that specializes in thorough analysis of NCAA Division 1 football and the National Football League, he was the best pass-blocking tackle in the Football Championship Subdivision by a significant margin.
He had a near-perfect pass blocking grade of 98.5 on 166 snaps and the next best grade was 92.4.
He was chosen a Phil Steele FCS Fourth Team Freshman All-American.
The Black Bears have gone 2-9 in each of the last two seasons.
He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
UMaine football coach Jordan Stevens could not immediately be reached for comment.
