Real Madrid have fought off interest from Liverpool in the race for Aurelien Tchouameni, and have agreed a deal worth in excess of 100m euros with Monaco, according to reports.
The Frenchman excelled with the French side this campaign, and has caught the eye of just about every club in world football with his displays. The 22-year-old racked up 35 Ligue 1 appearances as he helped his team into third place in France, netting three goals in the process.
He has also made 9 national team appearances, starring next to Paul Pogba in the Nations League final victory over Spain in October.
And, following Real Madrid’s failure to sign Kylian Mbappe, with the PSG man penning a new deal in Paris rather than joining Los Blancos on a free, attention turned to Tchouameni as Carlo Ancelotti targets reinforcements for an ageing midfield at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Agreement reached
Now, they have finally got their man.
David Ornstein of the Athletic reports that ‘Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with AS Monaco to sign the France international midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni in a package worth more than €100 million’ (£85m).
The deal will make the Frenchman the third most expensive addition in the Spanish clubs’ history, behind forward pair Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard, and he will form what they hope will be their midfield for the next decade alongside fellow French star Eduardo Camavinga, who arrived last summer.
After 95 appearances in Ligue 1, it seems as though the 22 year old is ready for a new challenge.
