A South Portland sushi restaurant is closed indefinitely after a Sunday night fire.
The fire broke out at Makoto Sushi Bar and Grill on Cottage Road about 8:37 p.m., according to Shara Dee, a spokesperson for the city of South Portland.
The building was evacuated, and firefighters found the fire in the ceiling near the kitchen’s exhaust hood system, Dee said Monday.
The fire was quickly extinguished, but not before the flames caused significant damage to the kitchen and roof.
No one was injured in the fire. Makoto Sushi Bar and Grill will remain closed indefinitely for repairs.
The fire remains under investigation.
