A Portland man allegedly ran from the scene of a head-on crash that left three other people injured.
Joshua Morin, 40, has been charged with operating under the influence of drugs and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, which noted that more charges are possible.
Morin was allegedly speeding in a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu on Route 302, also known as Roosevelt Trail, near Saw Mill Lane in Naples about 7:16 p.m. when he collided with a 2022 Subaru Forester driven by 83-year-old Louis Caruso of Cumberland.
A 2011 Honda CR-V driven by 21-year-old Miles Ferrant of Naples then crashed into the wrecked Subaru, according to the sheriff’s office.
Morin allegedly fled into a yard off Saw Mill Lane and onto a dock on the Chute River, which connects Long Lake and Brady Pond. He refused to surrender to police for more than an hour, but a crisis negotiator convinced Morin to give himself up, the sheriff’s office said Monday morning.
Police learned that Morin was missing from a federal correctional halfway house in Portland.
Caruso and his passenger, 84-year-old Lisa Caruso of Cumberland, were taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Ferrant was treated for minor injuries and released. Morin was taken to Bridgton Hospital with minor injuries before being taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland.
All three vehicles were totaled.
