THOMASTON — Watts Hall Community Arts invites the community to Swing Dance Night featuring The Ragtime Destroyers at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 30 at Watts Hall. With live music, dancing and an energetic atmosphere, the evening promises a lively start to the summer season.
A familiar favorite in the Portland music scene, The Ragtime Destroyers are known for their pop up swing dance sessions in the park and their infectious New Orleans inspired sound. Drawing from the jazz and jug band traditions of the 1920s and 30s, the band delivers music that feels playful, upbeat, and impossible to sit still to. Whether guests arrive ready to dance or simply want to soak in the atmosphere, the night is designed to be welcoming and fun for everyone.
Guests who would like to learn a few moves before the band takes the stage can take part in an optional beginner-friendly swing dance lesson from 6:15 to 6:45 pm led by Alaina Zyhowski, who many may recognize from her performances with the Watts Hall Community Players. No prior dance experience or partner is necessary.
The event is recommended for ages 18 and up. A cash bar will be provided by On The Rocks, and light concessions including popcorn, chips, and cookies will be available for purchase.
Advance tickets are $22 for the dance only or $30 with the lesson included. Day of event tickets are $27 for the dance only or $35 with the lesson included, if available.
