The owner of a pitbull who was fatally wounded in a shooting in Bangor has been charged.
Samuel Robichaud has been charged with allowing a dog to be at large, according to Bangor police Detective Lt. Brent Beaulieu.
The 8-year-old pitbull Blink was not tethered about 8:48 a.m. Tuesday when she ran “aggressively” toward Robichaud’s neighbor on March Street. The man was outside with his toddlers who were playing in the driveway.
The dog leaped over a small barrier and continued to charge despite the neighbor’s yelling.
That’s when, Beaulieu said Wednesday morning, the neighbor shot the dog, who then returned to Robichaud’s property.
Blink was shot in the jaw, and despite efforts by veterinarians, she did not survive her injuries, Robichaud told the Bangor Daily News
Animal control had warned Robichaud before about keeping his dog under control, according to Beaulieu.
