A Maine prisoner who walked off a Thomaston job site last Monday was arrested Saturday with a woman in New Hampshire, the Maine Department of Corrections said.
Brian Day, 45, a resident of Bolduc Correctional Facility in Thomaston, was arrested along with 45-year-old Candice Fisher, who lives in New Hampshire, where the Rochester police apprehended them. Authorities said information from the public led to the arrests.
Bolduc is a minimum-security prison in Thomaston that houses residents who have typically earned greater freedoms, including community work release programs. Day had earned the right to work while serving more than three years for theft, forgery and other offenses. He left his job site without permission on Monday.
The corrections department said its fugitive team worked alongside federal, state and local law enforcement to locate the pair, including Rochester police and the U.S. Marshals Service.
The department’s statement did not say what charges Fisher faces. A spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
