A Warren man allegedly led police on a chase in a stolen car Tuesday morning in Poland.
Isaiah Strong-Gassama, 28, has been charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, operating without a license, operating after license suspension, failing to stop for an officer, driving to endanger and false attachment of registration, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.
Strong-Gassama allegedly stole the black SUV from a dealership, and a deputy spotted him speeding north on Route 26, also known as Main Street, about 8:14 a.m.
But when the deputy tried to stop him, Strong-Gassama accelerated, leading police on a chase onto Aggregate Road and then Poland Corner Road, where he lost control and hit and broke a utility pole before coming to a rest in the woods.
Strong-Gassama fled into the woods, but police quickly caught up with him and took him into custody.
He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was treated for minor injuries.
Strong-Gassama was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
The investigation is ongoing.
