An Oakland man who stole guns from a Waterville pawn shop and then posted about it on social media has pleaded guilty.
Cody Smith, 24, entered his plea Tuesday at U.S. District Court in Bangor, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Smith broke into the pawn shop in the early morning hours of Aug. 10, 2025, and during the break-in, he stole 23 handguns, the U.S. attorney said Tuesday afternoon.
He was captured on the shop’s surveillance cameras. Hours after the burglary, Smith posted video on social media admitting to the break-in and showing off the guns, according to prosecutors.
Smith faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and up to a $250,000 fine.
He will be sentenced at a later date after a judge consults U.S. sentencing guidelines and other factors.
