A Portland man allegedly shot someone in both legs and assaulted another person Saturday morning in Westbrook.

Shuceyb Hersi, 36, has been charged with elevated aggravated assault, aggravated assault and reckless conduct, according to the Westbrook Police Department.

Hersi allegedly opened fire about 6:53 a.m. at a Bridgton Road residence.

When police arrived, they detained Hersi and several other people outside. Once inside, officers found one person with a gunshot wound in each leg and another had been assaulted.

Officers applied a tourniquet to the gunshot victim, who was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Hersi was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland.

The shooting remains under investigation.
