The best shows on Netflix in May may have an unexpected common theme: Relationships are bad and toxic, so don’t have them.
Unfortunately, people don’t get to pick their siblings, and only romantic pairings are subject to such intense scrutiny that they may not survive.
Watch With Us has chosen the following picks of the three new Netflix shows with great Rotten Tomatoes scores that you need to watch in May.
All three of this month’s selections fall under the dark comedy category, but only the second show of the month is a horror story that might send reasonable people packing.

‘Big Mistakes’ (2026)
What’s the first big mistake in Big Mistakes? Nicky (Dan Levy) and his sister, Morgan (Taylor Ortega), managed to turn a shopping trip for a gift into an experience that alienated a local crime family, led by Yusuf (Boran Kuzum). No mere apology is going to get Yusuf off their respective backs, so the brother-and-sister duo is just going to have to work off their debt.
That might have been a workable solution if Nicky and Morgan weren’t hilariously inept at anything and everything they put their minds to. This is happening against the backdrop of a mayoral campaign run by their mother, Linda (Laurie Metcalf). One wrong move by the siblings could have unintended consequences on their mother’s ambitions. But in this small town, it’s hard to keep secrets for any significant length of time.
Big Mistakes is streaming on Netflix.
‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’ (2026)
Rachel Alexandra Harkin (Camila Morrone) and Nicholas “Nicky” Summer Cunningham (Adam DiMarco) are in love and want to get married. Isn’t that enough for a young couple? Not on this show! Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen wastes very little time before throwing all sorts of bad omens in front of Nicky and Rachel. The kind of things that might lead someone to believe in curses and the supernatural. Rachel, in particular, is getting some weird vibes from Nicky’s mother, Victoria Cunningham (Jennifer Jason Leigh), and the rest of her in-laws that should be making her question everything.

But maybe Nicky is the one who should be rethinking his relationship, since Rachel has more than a few secrets of her own to deal with. The couple’s wedding is just days away, yet the sense of dread hanging over them never fully goes away. Let’s just say that the title isn’t false advertising, and it might take a miracle to get this couple on their honeymoon once the real fireworks begin.

‘Beef’ (2023 – Present)
The first season of Beef centered on two people, Danny Cho (Steven Yeun) and Amy Lau (Ali Wong), who turn a road rage incident into a feud that overwhelms every aspect of their lives. In Beef season 2, married couple Josh (Oscar Isaac) and Lindsay (Carey Mulligan) are already at each other’s throats in the very first episode. Yet whatever issues they have with each other pale in comparison to their enmity for Austin (Charles Melton) and his fiancée, Ashley (Cailee Spaeny).
Josh is Austin’s boss at the country club that caters to the wealthy, and the latter doesn’t want to be on the former’s bad side. Unfortunately for Austin, there’s no avoiding conflict on this show. It’s only a question of how much both couples are willing to lose before they either chase self-destruction or pull themselves back from the brink.
