The Voice alum Dylan Carter has died. He was 24.

Carter died on Saturday, April 25, in Colleton County, South Carolina, according to multiple reports.

“Our family is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Dylan Carter in a car accident,” wrote Thomas Hamilton Jr., the mayor of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, via Facebook on Sunday, April 26. “As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events. His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt.”

Hamilton continued, “To the loved ones and acquaintances of Dylan, we offer our sincerest condolences during this difficult period. The Town of Moncks Corner, its Council, and entire staff extend their deepest sympathies. He was much more to our family than an entertainer he was our friend and we are deeply saddened.”

Reba McEntire Will Join ‘The Voice’ Season 24 After Blake Shelton’s Exit

Carter competed on The Voice season 24 in 2023. He earned four chair turns from judges Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani and John Legend with his cover of Whitney Houston‘s “I Look to You” during the blind auditions. Carter’s performance moved McEntire, 71, and Legend, 47, to tears as he dedicated it to his late mother, who died the year before his audition.

“This was the best second chance,” the South Carolina native said at the time. “I just made her so proud.”

McEntire told Carter, “I saw [the emotion], I felt it and I heard it when you were singing. That’s the kind of songs that do that to me too. I saw you get so emotionally involved, and that’s when you know you’ve got a great song and a great singer, when it touches your heart.”

Legend added, “I know your mother is proud of you.”

Carter chose to join Team Reba. He was subsequently eliminated in the battle rounds.

After The Voice, Carter continued to perform at local events in his hometown. He was scheduled to sing at Moncks Corner’s “Music on Main” event on Monday, April 27, according to multiple reports. The event has since been canceled.

Carter was also the cofounder of The Local Voice, a nonprofit based in Santee, South Carolina, that offers care to women battling breast cancer.

“With heavy hearts we share the passing of Dylan Carter, co-founder of The Local Voice, talented musician and someone who meant so much to our community,” the organization wrote via Facebook. “Dylan was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day. Through his music, his kindness, and his smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen.”

Outside of music, Carter worked as a realtor and partly owned an RV park and campground near Lake Marion in Santee, according to local outlet Count on 2 News.
