Jeremy Swayman turns ire at Bruins’ bench in 3rd playoff loss to Sabres

BOSTON — As   Jeremy Swayman came out of the game after giving up the Sabres’ sixth goal with 13:19 remaining on Sunday, the   Bruins goalie turned to the Boston bench.

It’s impossible to tell what Swayman was saying. He still had his goalie mask on late in the   Bruins’ 6-1 loss to the Sabres in Game 4 of their best-of-seven playoff series. Was he angry? Trying to spark his team? Both? Either way, from the bobbing of his head as he leaned into the bench, it was clear he was delivering some message emphatically

Swayman then briefly walked down the tunnel as Joonas Korpisalo came in to replace him.

Bruins coach   Marco Sturm appreciated seeing fire from somebody in the midst of his team’s rough loss.

“Absolutely,” he said. “As least one guy.”

While the six goals were a postseason high for Swayman this year, Sturm said his goalie wasn’t to blame for Boston’s rough afternoon. Swayman finished with 23 saves behind a rough defensive effort in front of him.

“It was not his fault today. I can tell you that. I felt bad for him,” Sturm said. “That’s why we kept him in there for a while. he’s a battler. he wants to be in there.”
