A Bar Harbor and Mount Desert police cruiser was involved in a Saturday night crash with a vehicle that had failed to stop for officers on State Route 3.
Police said the crash happened around 9:16 p.m. near the intersection of Eden Street and Crooked Road, according to Police Chief David Kerns.
Officers were attempting to stop a black Subaru Impreza reported to be traveling at a high rate of speed.
Officer Judson Cake initially tried to stop the vehicle near Hamilton’s Pond, but the driver did not pull over, police said.
Officer Nathan Formby then positioned his cruiser in the Hulls Cove area to assist and identify the vehicle.
As Formby arrived at the intersection with his emergency lights activated, the Subaru entered the oncoming lane and struck his cruiser, police said.
Formby was not injured. The driver of the Subaru was taken by ambulance to Mount Desert Island Hospital.
The Maine State Police are investigating the crash. That section of Route 3 was closed for several hours while the crash scene was reconstructed.
