We in Maine’s Second Congressional District have a monumental opportunity to send a smart, accessible, kind, trustworthy person to represent us in a government that more than ever needs someone with moral courage, an open mind, and an understanding of democracy. I believe Matt Dunlap is that person. He is in this race to help people, not to chase a title.
Before entering public service, Matt worked as a dishwasher, bartender, commercial cook, proofreader, and fur trapper. He is the only candidate in this race who was actually a member of a union. Besides his experience in the working class, Matt has experience in government and a track record of pushing back when it matters. As Maine’s secretary of state, he stood up to the Trump administration, including playing a key role in getting the federal voter fraud commission disbanded. At a time when democracy needs defenders, Matt has proven to me that he is one.
Matt supports Medicare for All, wants to take on the billionaire class, and is committed to making sure working people can afford to live their lives. Matt is an outdoorsman who I believe gets this district. He hunts, fishes, and understands the land and the people who depend on it. In a rural district like ours, that matters. He’s not parachuting in with talking points — he’s one of us.
I have known Matt for many years and know how anchored in reality he is. His honesty and heart combine to make him the representative we need in the Second Congressional District.
