HBO Max has added an eclectic group of movies in April that should appeal to a large segment of cinema lovers.
Because HBO Max has access to the grand film library of Warner Bros. Pictures, it’s almost impossible to predict which classic titles will be available each month.
Watch With Us has narrowed down this month’s selections to the three new HBO Max movies with great Rotten Tomatoes scores.
Our picks include a great action comedy, a film noir masterpiece and the film where no one can hear you scream in space.

‘Game Night’ (2018)
Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams have an infectious comedic energy that powers Game Night all the way through to the end. A lot of the funniest moments stem from the fact that Max (Bateman) and Annie Davis (McAdams) have no idea just how much danger they’re in. This action comedy leans more towards the latter than the former, but there are some real stakes for Max and Annie beyond winning the game night.
Max’s brother, Brooks Davis (Kyle Chandler), set up the latest game night as a mystery to be solved, only for him to be kidnapped for real. Two other couples — Ryan Huddle (Billy Magnussen) and Sarah Darcy (Sharon Horgan) and Kevin (Lamorne Morris) and Michelle Sterling (Kylie Bunbury) — are taking part in the game night as well. Once the stakes are established as real, Max and Annie are going to need all of the help they can get from their friends.
Game Night is streaming on HBO Max.
‘Out of the Past’ (1947)
Out of the Past is one of the greatest film noir stories, and Kathie Moffat (Jane Greer) is a prime example of a femme fatale. Kathie is easy to love, and perhaps too easy to fall for. In the past, Whit Sterling (Kirk Douglas) hired private investigator Jeff Markham (Robert Mitchum) to find Kathie after she shot the former and robbed him of a great deal of money.

Kathie is so beautiful that Jeff is more than willing to overlook her transgressions against her former lover because he wants her for himself. But when things turn out badly for the couple, Jeff is shocked when both Whit and Kathie reenter his life years later. He’s right to be suspicious, but that still isn’t enough to keep him from getting ensnared in a trap that may cost him his freedom and his life.

‘Alien’ (1979)
For nearly 50 years, Twentieth Century Studios has been making sequels to Alien, and yet not even director Ridley Scott has been able to make a sci-fi horror film as effective as the one he delivered in 1979. The original Alien is a masterclass of terror, and the Xenomorph is far scarier when it’s barely on-screen and almost nothing is known about its true nature.
Sigourney Weaver had her breakout role as Ellen Ripley, a crew member on a mining spaceship called the Nostromo. That group collectively makes the mistake of bringing an infected crew member on the ship. When the Xenomorph emerges in one of the most memorable and shocking scenes in cinematic history, it signs the death warrant for almost everyone on the Nostromo. How can you stop something that’s born to be indestructible?
