Campaigns backing Sen. Susan Collins are flooding the media with ads that appear intended to reframe her image away from one tied too closely to our current president. They must know that if the campaign is a referendum on President Donald Trump, she loses.

Her campaign seems to be following the tried-and-true strategy incumbents often employ. Bring federal dollars back home while simultaneously working on behalf of corporations and special interests. Donations flow in, and marketing experts are engaged with a campaign to help voters misremember their disappointment and angst.

Primarily, money drives everything in politics. Raising it requires time resulting in less time for constituents. (Indeed, Sen. Collins doesn’t hold unscripted town halls.)

Everyone bemoans the failings of our government; particularly Congress. We live dismayed that our politicians don’t listen to us anymore, rather they serve disparate interests that often are not for our benefit.

This time don’t fall for the same trick. Don’t be fooled again. Vote differently.
