BANGOR — Penquis will host a construction celebration on April 17 at Milford Place, a new 40-unit affordable housing development for older adults in Bangor. The event will bring together community partners, elected officials and project stakeholders to recognize progress underway and the shared investment supporting the development.
Milford Place will expand access to housing for older adults in the Bangor region, where demand continues to grow. National trends show an increasing number of older adults experiencing housing instability, and local experience reflects that shift. At Penquis, more older adults are seeking support through income-based programs, highlighting the need for housing that supports stability and independence.
“The construction celebration represents progress taking shape in our community. We’re seeing more older adults working hard to maintain stability, and housing plays a central role in that. This development creates 40 new opportunities for people to have a safe, stable place to call home,” said Kara Hay, president and CEO of Penquis.
The $15 million development will include 40 affordable units designed to support older adults in maintaining stable housing. Eight units will be filled through referral connections with the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, expanding access to stable housing.
Penquis is the developer and owner of Milford Place, reinforcing its long-term commitment to providing housing that supports stability across the region.
The project is supported through a combination of public and private investment. Funding and financing partners include MaineHousing, Evernorth, Bangor Savings Bank, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston through its Affordable Housing Program, Penobscot County and the City of Bangor. The development team includes Dunbar and Brawn Construction, TAC Architectural Group and Carpenter Associates as consulting engineers, along with additional partners contributing to the project’s success.
Construction is currently underway, with the development representing continued progress in expanding housing options for older adults in the community.
