Massachusetts mother Lindsay Clancy said she’s open to admitting she murdered her three children in 2023 as the start of her murder trial approaches.
Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, said she “is offering to admit that she killed the children” if the judge agrees to a bifurcated trial format, according to WCVB.
A bifurcated trial is a two-stage legal proceeding in which liability and damages are heard separately, and the trials often have the same jury.
“The defendant states that the issue of the actions that resulted in the death of the decedents in the indictments at the bar is not a live issue and the defendant is willing to stipulate formally in writing to her involvement,” the recent motion read, per People.

The motion went on to state that as a result of the admission, “the only live issue for consideration at trial would be the defendant’s state of mind as it relates to the defense of lack of criminal responsibility.”
The new filing comes after the judge previously denied another defense motion, which requested that the proceedings be split into two separate trials.
Reddington asked the judge to have one trial to determine if his client is guilty, as well as a second trial to determine if she is criminally responsible for the killings.
The attorney announced in December 2025 that the defense intended to seek an insanity defense, arguing that Clancy was experiencing postpartum psychosis when she asked her husband, Patrick Clancy, to go pick up dinner for them on January 24, 2023.
When Patrick returned home 25 minutes later, he discovered that his wife had jumped out the window from the second story of their home.
While calling 911, Patrick learned that their three children had all been strangled when he discovered exercise bands tied around their necks.
The couple’s two oldest — Cora, 5, and Dawson, 3 — were taken to the hospital and were pronounced dead soon after. Meanwhile, their youngest child, 8-month-old Callan, died a few days later.
The defense previously noted that Clancy had been prescribed 15 medications months earlier in response to her postpartum depression.

However, prosecutors argued that they believe Clancy carefully planned and plotted the killings of her three children when she sent her husband out to get food.
Clancy is scheduled to undergo a forensic psychological evaluation later this week, which comes after Reddington informed the court that his client plans to plead not guilty by reason of insanity at the trial.
She is next scheduled to appear in court on April 23 for a status hearing. Meanwhile, the trial is scheduled to begin on July 20 after it was postponed from its original February start date.
