Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is a proud father of three.
“There’s no question that I work extremely hard. I’m traveling around the country, now a little more around the world,” Trudeau told Vox in a 2016 profile. “Being able to get home to see them every night or almost every night when I’m in Ottawa is great. Being able to bring them with me on trips when I can is really important. My dad did that with us. He’d bring us with him … and we got to see the world and engage and mostly got to spend good quality time with our dad.”
He continued, “I just sort of remember, ‘Look, I’m in politics not in spite of the fact that I have kids but because of the fact that I have kids.’ They keep me really grounded in, ‘Well, am I doing things that are meaningful or am I just sort of playing the game?’”
Trudeau was married to Sophie Grégoire Trudeau from 2005 to 2023, during which time they welcomed three children. The pair announced their separation in August 2023.

“Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate,” Trudeau wrote via Instagram at the time. “As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build.”
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, meanwhile, revealed in a separate statement that Trudeau and Grégoire Trudeau were “focused on raising their kids in a safe, loving and collaborative environment.”
Nearly two years later, Trudeau began dating pop star Katy Perry with his kids’ full approval.
“She’s super nice. She’s super down to earth. She’s great,” Trudeau’s son Xavier said on the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast in April 2026. “I think that my dad’s happy, so that’s important.”

Xavier is an aspiring musician and released his debut EP, When Does It End, in July 2025. He occasionally gets music advice from his dad’s girlfriend, Katy Perry.
“When I’m really happy with a song, [I] send it [to her],” Xavier said on the “Can’t be Censored” podcast in April 2026. “She’s always happy to give me advice or tell me what I should change.”
As for his personal life, Xavier has been dating model and influencer Pariya Carello since November 2025.
