PEMBROKE — The Pembroke Historical Society Lyceum is holding a gathering at the Pembroke Historical Society Museum on Sunday, April 12 starting at 2 p.m.

Kris Paprocki, who teaches music at the Pembroke and Perry Schools, and leads a Downeast Shape-Note Sing, will sing and discuss historic songs of Maine’s river log drivers. He will be joined by Stephen Sanfilippo, who will present “A Manley Prize” regarding a previously lost American Revolution naval ballad that was discovered in the archives of the Pembroke Historical Society several years ago. Dr. Sanfilippo will be presenting “A Manley Prize” in New Haven, Connecticut, in May, for the annual conference of the North American Society for Oceanic History.

PHS has held several MaineSong gatherings over the past few years. They include a lot of good singing and interesting discussions. You can be a part of the effort to preserve and present Maine’s Own Song Tradition, and have a great time doing it. Admission is by donation to the Pembroke Historical Society. The PHS Museum is located at the intersection of Old County Road, Front Street and Shore Road, in old downtown Pembroke near the stone bridge and the American Legion Hall. The entrance has two steps up.
