If you want to catch the elite sports documentaries on Amazon Prime Video, then you’re going to have to dig for them.

Without a specific hub for the category, a lot of sports docs on Prime Video have flown under the radar.

Luckily, we’ve already done the work for you and found Island of Baseball, which is an appropriate choice given the upcoming MLB season. A Mike Tyson documentary also caught our attention.

You can find both of those docs among Watch With Us‘ picks for the must-watch Prime Video sports documentaries right now.

16 Must-Watch Netflix Sports Documentaries on Right Now (March 2026)

‘Island of Baseball’ (2020)

During the Cold War, Cuba’s most popular illicit exports were cigars and baseball players with MLB potential. Island of Baseball takes a look at the strong connection that Cuba has with America’s pastime, which extends much earlier than the Cuban Revolution that separated the country from America for the better part of half a century.

Baseball wasn’t banned in Cuba following the revolution, but the best players weren’t allowed to legally leave. As recapped in this documentary, some of the top baseball prospects in Cuba had to sneak out of the country and brave the ocean to Florida, all in the hope that they could get their chance to make it in Major League Baseball.

‘Tyson’ (2017)

In his era, Mike Tyson was one of the most famous boxers and the most feared in the ring. He’s also been one of the most controversial fighters, even before his stint in prison. The 2017 documentary Tyson does go over a lot of ground that’s previously been covered, including by Tyson himself. However, it’s still riveting to hear the man speak about his own past while staring directly into the camera.

Mike Tyson Feels He ‘Still Won’ After Defeat in Jake Paul Boxing Match

Tyson does address his conviction, which he dismisses as a lie that stole years of his life. He also touches upon his history with promoter Don King, who was also notorious for his over-the-top persona while pushing Tyson’s fights. And it doesn’t sound like there’s much love left between Tyson and his former hype man.

‘Reggie’ (2023)

Whenever the topic of all-time great baseball players comes up, Reggie Jackson has to be a part of that conversation. He’s a five-time World Series champion, an MLB Hall of Fame player and one of the biggest sports superstars from the ’70s and ’80s. Jackson is also old enough to have lived through segregation and what it was like when Black people were treated as less than human.

Reggie gives Jackson a stage to reflect on his life and career, in addition to sharing his thoughts on the intersection of sports and race. That part of American history isn’t easy to revisit, especially since it’s not that far back in our collective past. But it’s an important conversation to have, and Jackson saw it all for himself.

‘Built in Birmingham: Brady and the Blues’ (2025)

Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues feels like Prime Video’s answer to Welcome to Wrexham, especially since Ryan Reynolds and his football team briefly appear in this series as well. NFL legend Tom Brady may be a celebrity in the United States, but there are a lot of people in Birmingham City who have never heard of him.

Tom Brady Takes Ownership Stake in CardVault Collectibles: ‘Part of My DNA’

Brady and billionaire Tom Wagner purchased the Birmingham City Football Club, intending to turn the team’s fortunes around. This series follows their efforts through Birmingham’s 2024/2025 season as fans get a first-hand look at whether Brady and Wagner can live up to their promises or whether they’ve come up short.

‘Raise The Flags: 50 Years of Buccaneers Football’ (2025)

When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the NFL in 1976, they became the laughing stock of the league with a 0-26 start over their first two seasons. By and large, the team simply wasn’t very good for long stretches of time over the last five decades. Understandably, the documentary series Raise The Flags: 50 Years of Buccaneers Football places more of an emphasis on the times when the Bucs were good or even great, including the defensive turnaround in the mid-’90s that went a long way towards reversing the franchise’s fortune.

Over 100 former Bucs players and management were interviewed for this show, including Warren Sapp and Tom Brady. There’s also an extended look back at the two Super Bowl-winning teams in Bucs’ history, which is two more championships than some of the other NFL teams have won.

‘The Legend of the 81-Point Game’ (2023)

January 2026 will mark the 2oth anniversary of Kobe Bryant‘s 81-point game during a contest between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Toronto Raptors. For perspective, that’s the second-most points anyone has ever scored in a single NBA game, behind Wilt Chamberlain‘s 100-point game in 1962 during a very different era in basketball.

Although this documentary is called The Legend of the 81-Point Game, it’s not all about that moment in time. It also takes a look back at Bryant’s 20-year career in the league as a Laker and arguably one of the best players who ever played the game. Bryant’s teammates, contemporaries and opponents share their perspective on both the man and his accomplishments. There are also some emotional scenes as they recall his untimely death in 2020.

‘Saquon’ (2025)

If you’ve ever seen the incredible footage of the Philadelphia Eagles player jumping over another player while facing the other way, that was running back Saquon Barkley. He’s made a name for himself in the NFL as one of the best in the game. But there was a time when it looked like his career was over.

The Best Basketball Movies and TV Shows to Watch in Between March Madness

Barkley tore his ACL five years ago, and his recovery was a real question mark. Saquon is essentially Barkley’s video diary during one of the most tumultuous times in his life as he left the New York Giants and found the glory he was looking for as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. And if you thought that his story couldn’t get any more extraordinary, the documentary even covers Barkley’s appearance in the 2025 Super Bowl, which happened to take place on his birthday.

Saquon is streaming on Prime Video.

‘Allen Iverson’ (2025)

During his playing days, Allen Iverson was unquestionably one of the best players in the NBA. He had a natural talent for basketball that few could match. But despite winning glory on the basketball court, Iverson suffered off the court, including a conviction for fighting that could have seen him spend five years behind bars, but his sentence was overturned.

The Allen Iverson documentary series gives its subject the time to reflect on his life and his impact on the game. Iverson may not have won an NBA championship, but he left a very big impact on the culture of the game.

‘Bye Bye Barry’ (2023)

During his NFL career, Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders was one of the best players in the game. Records seemed poised to fall as he consistently turned in outstanding numbers. At least until 1998, when Sanders abruptly retired without fanfare, and just before he would have hit big milestones.

Bye Bye Barry is a biographical documentary that lets Sanders fully explain where he was coming from when he made that decision. At the time, football fans in Detroit were less than forgiving about Sanders’ choices. But over time, his legacy has been secured.

‘Game 7: Cubs vs. Indians 2016’ (2025)

Game 7 is a loose connection of standalone films chronicling some of the most memorable playoff series in the history of baseball, hockey and basketball. All three of those sports use a playoff structure that can end in a decisive winner-takes-all game 7.

Cubs vs. Indians 2016 stands out from the rest as one of the greatest MLB playoff games in history. The contest had enough drama for a Hollywood movie, as it began with a home run and ended with a rain delay before heading into a decisive 10th inning. Going into the game, neither the Chicago Cubs nor the Cleveland Indians had won a World Series title in decades. By the end, one of those long losing streaks was broken.

‘One Man and His Shoes’ (2021)

Marketing endorsements have become a major part of sports in the last five decades, but none could match the meteoric rise depicted in One Man and His Shoes. Even now, we scarcely have to tell you that the one man is Michael Jordan, or that his Air Jordan shoes redefined sneakers for decades.

This could have just been a documentary about Nike blowing its own horn and enjoying its good fortune. Except this film wasn’t made with Nike’s participation, and it goes to some places that the shoemaker would probably like to forget. The company created such a demand for these shoes that some people have been killed for them. Getting robbed for a pair of Air Jordan shoes is a problem that persisted for decades, and some of the victims’ families get a chance to speak about that in this film.

7 Must-Watch Drama Movies on Prime Video (December 2025): ‘The Apprentice’ and More

‘Hugo Sánchez, the Goal and the Glory’ (2022)

Hugo Sánchez, the Goal and the Glory is a Spanish language documentary that explores the career of Hugo Sánchez, one of the greatest soccer players to emerge from Mexico, who is also widely considered to be among the best who ever played international football.

The documentary touches on most of the stops during Sanchez’s 20-plus years as a professional, including his stint with the prestigious Real Madrid team, where he cemented his reputation with a high number of goals each season.

‘The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain’ (2015)

The title of The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain is a bit misleading, since there isn’t any actual identity theft in it. Director Matthew Wolfe apparently chose it as a cheeky title while sharing the story of former college football quarterback Mitch Mustain.

Netflix’s New Cowboys Show ‘America’s Team’ Is 2025’s Best Docuseries So Far

At one point, Mustain was ranked the No. 1 high school quarterback in America, and he went undefeated during his initial college stop at Arkansas. But once Mustain transferred to USC, he never regained the same form or success he had earlier. This isn’t a story about a fall from grace, but it is an exploration of what can happen when the gulf between a player’s dreams and his reality is too far to bridge.
