Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia is working hard this season for the sake of his late daughter.
“Same goals … different perspectives … new motivations,” Vesia, 29, captioned Instagram photos of himself on the field at Dodger Stadium on Thursday, March 26. “Thankful for everyone who has stuck by me. Dodger Nation gonna bring the energy.”
Vesia concluded his post by writing, “I’m going to make you proud SSV ❤️.”
Alex and wife Kayla Vesia previously revealed that their daughter’s name was Sterling Sol Vesia. The couple announced the death of their newborn baby in November 2025.

“Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th,” Alex and Kayla, 29, captioned an Instagram post. “There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
The post continued, “Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them. Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”
Alex and Kayla concluded their post by thanking the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. and their staff.
“Every person we came across was truly so incredible,” they wrote.

The announcement came after the Dodgers announced that Alex would be taking a hiatus from the team amid a “personal family matter” just before the World Series.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife, Kayla, navigate a deeply personal family matter,” the team shared. “The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family and we will provide an update at a later date.”
Alex and Kayla tied the knot in January 2024. The pair announced in April 2025 that they were expecting their first baby.

“Baby Vesia coming soon,” they captioned a joint Instagram post at the time. “We are beyond excited for this next chapter!”
Last month, Alex revealed that he and Kayla had begun therapy to help them through Sterling’s death.
“Kay and I started therapy about six weeks ago. It hasn’t been easy,” the athlete said as he reported to spring training. “But talking to someone has made a difference.”
Alex continued, “For those out there who have lost a child or are fighting through any struggle, if you can take anything from this, please seek help. Talk to somebody. It’s definitely helped Kay and I. Please don’t be afraid to speak up. Your mental health matters.”
