Since the war in Iran started at the beginning of the month, fuel prices in Maine and across the nation have been heavily impacted over the past three weeks.
Between March 2 and data reported March 23, the average price of a gallon of heating oil increased by nearly a dollar and a half, according to state data. That data also shows that the statewide average price of a gallon of heating oil was $5.40 as of March 23. That’s up from $3.94 at the beginning of the month.
Heating oil hasn’t been the only fuel impacted by the ongoing war, as the average statewide price of kerosene rose by about $1.33 since March 2; the average price of $4.96 rose to $6.29. Propane costs have seen a slower increase in prices, with the statewide average for one gallon climbing by about eight cents in that same period of time.

The price of gasoline has also increased significantly since the start of the war. On March 9, the average cost of one gallon of regular grade gas was $3.41: that climbed to $3.83 as of March 27 data reported by AAA.
As of Friday, it is most expensive to purchase regular grade, mid-grade and premium gasoline in the Lewiston-Auburn region. Average diesel prices are highest in the Bangor region on Friday.
