Kenduskeag residents will have to wait at least another week to vote on town articles because of “clerical errors,” Tax Collector Elena Reed said.
Some articles had the wrong dates on them while other budget line items were missing, Reed said. Voters notified the town of the mistakes, according to a social media post from the town.
Residents were meant to vote on the articles at a town meeting tonight.
New warrant articles — budget items or policy changes that require voter approval — will be printed and published, with the goal to have them finished on Monday, Reed said.
Kenduskeag’s postponement comes one day after Clifton, another Penobscot County town, said it will have to open two sealed, uncounted absentee ballots that could flip a select board seat. While Clifton’s results can be affected by the error, Kenduskeag’s results from Thursday’s election — in which select board and school board members were elected — will not be affected by this revelation.
The scheduled meeting will still be held at 7 p.m. Friday, but it will be opened and closed, Reed said.
Information on when the vote will be taken will be shared when the town knows when the updated warrants will be issued, Reed said.
“We want to make sure it’s 100% correct. When it comes to town peoples’ money, we want to dot all our i’s and cross our t’s,” Reed said.
