Clifton’s Select Board will have two new members after Tuesday’s election, during which voters also approved a recall ordinance that applies to members of both the school and select boards.
The new board members join at a time when Clifton residents have received bigger tax bills in back-to-back years while town budgets have depleted reserve funds. The election also fills every seat on the board, which hasn’t been fully staffed since August 2025.
Cynthia Grant, a former town manager, was elected to a one-year Select Board position. Grant ran on bringing transparency and experience to the board.
“I am thankful to all the voters that came out and I am ready to go to work and do my part to contribute to my community,” she said.
Greg Newell and Lee Bryant were elected to the two open three-year positions.
Bryant, the only incumbent on the ballot, wants to cut the town budget back where possible and build a veterans’ memorial.
Money is already being saved for the memorial, he said.
Bryant will continue to vote on what he thinks is right for residents, he said.
Newell previously said he wants to work on a comprehensive plan that could make it easier for businesses and residents to move to Clifton.
Newell did not respond to a request for comment.
