Hannah Montana fans are partying like it’s 2006 again.
Miley Cyrus brought back her signature blonde hair and bangs for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which premiered on Tuesday, March 24.
The highly anticipated special is “a love letter to fans,” according to Disney+’s official logline. Hosted by “Call Her Daddy” podcast host Alex Cooper, the in-depth interview with Cyrus features a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic Disney Channel show — and a new song from Hannah herself.
Cyrus starred as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana during Hannah Montana’s Disney Channel run from 2006 to 2011.
“I’ve worked so hard to get to the place where Miley is recognizable in the same way that Hannah once was,” Cyrus said during a Tuesday interview on Good Morning America. “And so I felt like there would be this happy hybrid — I’d give myself some bangs and blonde and put in my little clip in, but I still got to feel like Miley.”
The show became an immediate success, kicking off a chart-topping singing career for Cyrus. However, she was “so not ready” for that level of fame at her age. A promo for the show aired during the 2006 premiere of High School Musical, and Cyrus became a superstar just one day later.
“The next day I was going to ride roller-coasters and people started asking for my autograph, and the show wasn’t even out yet,” she recalled.

Cyrus even explained how real-life godmother Dolly Parton inadvertently brought the Hannah Montana anniversary special to life. The biggest lesson Cyrus learned from Parton was to start promoting something before it’s real.
“I just started talking about a Hannah-versary special before one even existed,” the singer said on GMA. “Then I went to Disney and said, ‘Look how excited everyone is about this imaginary Hannah-versary.’”
