If you love classic movies, few streamers have a stronger cinematic lineup than HBO Max.

HBO Max’s latest additions include some incredibly well-reviewed films, many of which were released decades ago.

The Watch With Us team has narrowed the selections down to the three new HBO Max movies with at least 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Our picks for the month include a sci-fi action thriller, a psychological thriller and a political thriller. So it’s all thrillers, really.

3. ‘The Terminator’ (1984)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 90

The vast majority of moviegoers never saw Piranha II: The Spawning, the first film for which James Cameron was credited as the director. Cameron considers his second film, The Terminator, his true directorial debut, and it’s a true classic in the sci-fi action genre. Long before Arnold Schwarzenegger had mastered his action hero persona, he was absolutely terrifying as the T-800 model Terminator.

This soulless machine was sent from the future to 1984 to assassinate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), a young woman who is destined to give birth to the leader of the human resistance. No one in the present can stand up to the Terminator’s rampage, which is why Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) follows it into his relative past to protect Sarah. Kyle is a good soldier, but the Terminator is relentless, and it will never stop coming for Sarah unless they can find a way to destroy it.

The Terminator is streaming on HBO Max.

2. ‘Memento’ (2000)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 93

By coincidence, Memento is also the second film for director Christopher Nolan, and the movie that made Hollywood immediately take notice. The gimmick of the movie is that most of it takes place in reverse order, which means you’ll see the ending of the story before you realize what it means. Guy Pearce stars as Leonard Shelby, a man suffering from anterograde amnesia after an attack that left his wife dead.

Leonard’s short-term memory is so spotty that he has to write notes to himself and tattoo clues on his body as he searches for his wife’s killer. He also finds that very few are sympathetic to his plight, as both Natalie (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Teddy (Joe Pantoliano) are more than willing to use it to their advantage. The only person Leonard can trust is himself, and even that may be asking for too much faith.

Memento is streaming on HBO Max.

1. ‘All the President’s Men’ (1976)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 95

One of the most impressive aspects of All the President’s Men is the speed with which it was made. It’s based on the true account of reporters Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, whose 1972 investigation into the Watergate break-in revealed ties to the White House that engulfed President Richard Nixon in a scandal that he couldn’t escape. The book was finished in 1974, and so was Nixon shortly thereafter.

Even when the outcome isn’t in doubt, Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford are a dynamic on-screen duo as Bernstein and Woodward, respectively. This is the political thriller that set the standard for the genre for decades after the fact, and it popularized the Deep Throat alias used by Bernstein and Woodward’s source (Hal Holbrook).

All the President’s Men is streaming on HBO Max.
