Women’s junior flyweight boxer Isis Sio is in a medically induced coma after suffering a brutal knockout at the hands of Jocelyn Camarillo in the first round of a fight on Saturday, March 21 in San Bernardino, California.
Sio, 19, was knocked unconscious in the opening bout of ProBoxTV’s card after taking multiple hits to the head. Medical staff attended to Sio at the scene and she was seen convulsing in the ring, according to ESPN. She is being treated in the intensive care unit of Loma Linda University Health medical center.
“On behalf of CEO Garry Jonas and the entire ProBox family we are praying for a speedy recovery for Isis Sio,” ProBoxTV wrote via X on Saturday. “Ms. Sio is currently in a medically induced coma. Our thoughts are with her and her family at this very difficult time.”
Camarillo, 21, took to Instagram after the fight to acknowledge her victory and express support for her opponent.

“6-0 🗡️💛,” she wrote in the caption. “All glory to god. came prepared, gave it my all. grateful for the moment but my heart is with isis and keeping her in my prayers and wishing her a full recovery.”
She followed up by posting a photo of Sio to her Instagram Story, with the text, “Please please please keep Isis in your prayers!! My heart is with her and her family.”
Sio, a North Dakota native, made her professional debut in August 2025, losing to Jessica Radtke Maltez by unanimous decision. She then defeated Katelyn Radtka before suffering a knockout against Perla Bazaldua on January 30.
The young boxer coming back to fight less than two months after a knockout has led to criticism from some in the boxing community. In boxing, when a player is knocked out, a 60-day medical suspension is customary before they can return to fighting. Sio’s defeat to Bazaldua, 20, however, was ruled as a body shot, which carries only a 30-day medical suspension.

Camarillo, for her part, fights for Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions. MVP has also faced backlash after it posted video of the knockout via X with the caption, “MVP’s Jocelyn Camarillo won by 1st round KO🥶. KO of the year??”
The post came before news broke of Sio’s medical condition, but remained live as of Monday, March 23.
“Please remove this,” one follower replied. “Should be simple.”
“This post should be removed immediately,” another added.
