If you’ve been waiting for BIGBANG to come back — truly come back — the moment is finally here. After years of contract expirations, lineup changes and emotional farewells, three-fifths of one of K-pop’s most iconic groups are gearing up for their 20th anniversary, and the plans are massive.

A world tour. A Coachella slot. New music energy following the emotional reunion track “Home Sweet Home.” But the full picture is more nuanced than just a celebration. Here’s a deep dive into where every member stands and what lies ahead.

BIGBANG’S 2026 Comeback: World Tour and Coachella Confirmed

Let’s start with the headline that has the fandom buzzing. BIGBANG is set for a major 2026 comeback to mark their 20th anniversary, with YG Entertainment announcing a world tour and a Coachella performance in April 2026. The group is expected to continue as a trio featuring G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung.

G-Dragon himself confirmed the excitement during a fan meeting he held at KSPO DOME in Seoul in February 2026.

During the event, G-Dragon shared, “This year, BIGBANG is making a comeback for their 20th anniversary. As both a member and a fan, I am also looking forward to it, and I think all the members feel the same way,” expressing his excitement about the comeback.

For the upcoming reunion, the trio will collaborate with their original agency, YG Entertainment.

BIGBANG’S 2024 Reunion Track That Reignited Hope

Before the 2026 plans were even announced, 2024 proved to be an incredible year for fans of BIGBANG. On November 22, fans were treated to an unexpected BIGBANG reunion when G-Dragon released “Home Sweet Home,” a song from his third studio album.

G-Dragon first hinted at a collaboration the day before the song’s release, posting a teaser image featuring piano keys on a black background. As expected, the post quickly began to fuel fan speculation that he would be releasing a new song with his BIGBANG bandmates, Taeyang and Daesung. One day later, “Home Sweet Home” was dropped, validating the fan theories and hypotheses.

G-Dragon’s Solo Path and New Label

Understanding where BIGBANG is now requires understanding the journey each member took after leaving YG Entertainment. BIGBANG is no longer affiliated with YG Entertainment — a fact that still surprises some newer fans.

G-Dragon’s contract with YG expired in June 2023, officially ending the group’s relationship with the label. Later that year, he signed to Galaxy Corporation under his real name. While G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung have all been loved for their significant contributions as solo artists, G-Dragon’s ongoing solo work — including the upcoming third studio album that houses “Home Sweet Home” — has kept him firmly in the spotlight.

The Evolving Trio: Taeyang and Daesung’s Moves

Taeyang and Daesung each charted their own courses as well. Following T.O.P’s departure from YG in 2022, Taeyang left to join The Black Label, a subsidiary of YG, while Daesung also exited to pursue opportunities under a label called R&D.

Despite being spread across different labels, the three have clearly maintained a creative connection — as “Home Sweet Home” demonstrated — and the confirmed 2026 world tour signals that whatever logistical hurdles exist between separate agencies, they’ve been cleared enough to make a large-scale reunion tour possible.

T.O.P’s Departure and His Emotional Words

A major turning point for the group came in 2017, when T.O.P faced legal issues connected to marijuana use while serving in the military. News of the case broke in June, alongside reports of an overdose, marking one of the most difficult periods in the group’s history.

Looking back in a 2022 interview with Prestige Hong Kong, he described that time as “the worst moment” of his life.

“This is the first time I’ve spoken about this publicly, but I did try to commit suicide about five years ago,” he told the magazine. “I realised later how much hurt and painful memories I gave to the people around me, my family and fans out there.”

He also revealed he had dealt with depression since he was young and turned to songwriting in the years that followed, creating more than 100 tracks.

“It’s been my motivation, like wanting to fill up a bookshelf with my work. It’s been my passion. I realized how precious it is to pay back what I’ve received. I feel that I’m reborn.”

BTS Live Netflix Comeback Special: Date, Time and Everything You Need to Know

In 2022, it was revealed that T.O.P had ended his exclusive contract with YG Entertainment. Despite this, he participated in the group’s comeback single, “Still Life,” which was released on April 5, 2022, marking the group’s debut as a quartet. That participation gave fans hope that T.O.P might still be part of BIGBANG’s future, but he announced on May 31, 2023, that he had officially withdrawn from the group.

What makes this departure especially painful for fans are T.O.P’s own words about it. In an interview conducted during his appearance in the Netflix original series Squid Game Season 2 in 2025, T.O.P drew a line regarding BIGBANG’s comeback.

He cautiously responded, “I thought of ‘Spring Summer Fall Winter’ as the final project,” and added, “Seeing fans still hoping for a reunion hurt my heart rather than making me angry. I feel guilty toward the members and will carry this regret for the rest of my life.”

Seungri’s Exit: A Brief Recap

The second major change to the group came in 2019 when Seungri retired from the entertainment industry amid the highly publicized Burning Sun scandal. He was convicted in 2020 of charges including prostitution mediation and embezzlement. Originally sentenced to three years in prison, Seungri’s term was reduced to 18 months in 2022 following his admission of guilt. He was released on February 9, 2023. There is no indication in current reporting that Seungri has any involvement in BIGBANG’s 2026 plans.

What This All Means for BIGBANG Heading Into 2026

BIGBANG’s story has always been one of extraordinary highs and painful lows — a group whose musical legacy sits alongside one of the most turbulent histories in K-pop. But as G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung prepare for a world tour and Coachella, the narrative heading into 2026 is one of resilience.

For fans who grew up with BIGBANG or discovered them through the broader K-pop wave, this 20th anniversary is shaping up to be the moment many thought might never come. The world tour details, the Coachella confirmation, and the emotional weight of everything the group has been through make this one of the most anticipated K-pop events on the 2026 calendar.
