I have appreciated Sen. Susan Collins often. However, if she truly represents Maine voters, she’d only have to follow the recent Maine referendum results when the broadly popular idea of showing an ID to vote got loaded up with far-right wish list items. It was defeated almost two to one!
Rather than supporting President Donald Trump’s SAVE America Act, she should demand that her Senate colleagues come up with their own bipartisan bill including only reasonable terms, rather than the far-right partisan House version. Otherwise, I believe it will be clear to voters that she is a reliable vote for whatever Trump wants.
Maine, we have a problem. We put hidden taxes in our electric bills when we say we want to electrify transportation and heating. We’re taxing what we want (clean electricity use) and not taxing what we don’t want (carbon pollution from burning fossil fuels).
