A Thomaston man has purchased a small commercial downtown Rockland property where takeout stands have operated for years.
Christian Pavesi purchased 346 Main St. on March 5 from Stephen and Leling Carroll for $215,000. Pavesi recently moved to Thomaston from Nantucket. The Carrolls purchased the lot in September 2025 for $190,000.
Stephen Carroll said last year in the long term, he and his wife wanted to have a two-story building built where Leling would operate her business — sewing, alterations and custom-designed wedding and prom gowns — on the first floor. Stephen Carroll said March 13 those plans to build were delayed by the city’s plan to dig up Elm Street and install new sewer and stormwater lines.
The site has been the location for various food stands during the past 20 years, including Linda Bean’s Lobster and most recently Wiley’s Taco.
Carroll said the new owner plans to run a food concession business out of the existing building.
A Facebook message was sent March 12 to Pavesi.
The property was once the site of the Endicott Johnson shoe store. City directories show the business at the address from 1940 through 1971. After that, the property was in the Philbrick family, first Rhama and then Madeline Philbrick. She sold the property in 1999 to Bracebridge Corp., which was affiliated with MBNA.
Bracebridge tore down a three-story wooden building and created a park to be located next to the Farnsworth Art Museum. Bracebridge retained ownership until selling to ADF in 2004. ADF sold it to the Carrolls.
